Inspired by Reed Exhibitions UK’s very own Head of Operations, Jennifer Booth, the first Event Industry Sleepover in London raised more than £7,500 for charity.
Some 280 event professionals attended the women-only networking event on 17 September at London’s Olympia, where they enjoyed a night of pampering, pizza and prosecco. Jennifer conceived the idea to help women network away from the bustle of industry events, whilst raising money for a great cause. All proceeds from the £30 ticket sales are going to charities Macmillan Cancer Support and Breast Cancer Now.
The event’s suppliers all donated their services for free, including beauty treatments, cocktail mixology, catering, and yoga and burlesque classes. A cinema was also provided by London Book and Screen Week (LBSW), along with two inspirational authors and "book before bedtime" readers, Hayley Hill and Amanda Prowse.
"I have been completely overwhelmed by the level of support that we have received across the industry," says Jennifer. "What started as a fairly fluid concept very quickly caught people’s imagination and took shape in to what was a fantastic event. I am particularly proud of the support we have received from Reed Exhibitions at an individual level with 25 employees attending, at a show level with support from LBSW, and at management level with a subsidy on all Reed Exhibitions ticket sales."
Among the supporters from Reed Exhibitions was Camilla Stanton, Customer Services Executive, who said: “It was a really enjoyable evening and it was great to socialise outside of work with like-minded women for such an amazing cause! The activities were well organised and I loved the mixology class. I would love to be a part of a similar event in the future.”
Corinne Cunningham, Finance and Commercial Director, Europe, who also attended the event adds: "It’s not often that an industry gathering combines suppliers and organisers and junior and senior staff – all for the benefit of charity. I particularly liked the massive sofa which gave LBF a spotlight feature for bed time reading. I’m looking forward to next year already!"
