Six teams took part in Reed Exhibitions North America’s annual 5K run for Bridgeport Rescue Mission (BRM) on 6 November, raising a fantastically fitting USD 10,000 for their 10th anniversary.
For the past 10 years, Reed Exhibitions North America has organized a 5K run and 1 mile walk for a local charity, choosing in recent years to donate the money to Bridgeport Rescue Mission (BRM) which provides food, shelter, clothing, education, job training and residential discipleship for the urban poor and addicted.
It was close, but the winning team for the best time of the race was the Skeleton Crew (pictured top) who also raised the highest overall total by a single team, netting USD 1,273. The Best Costume prize went to Frozen Feet (pictured bottom). The grand total raised for BRM was USD 5,000 which Reed Exhibitions matched, making the total donation to BRM a whopping USD 10,000.
"Every year we wonder how we are going to raise the money but the employees do a great job of fundraising internally," said a delighted Meghan Hurley, HR Director, Reed Exhibitions North America. "They put on happy hours, go door-to-door with dessert carts in the office and conduct raffles. We have only been working with the Mission for the past few years but the money we raise is so valuable to help them feed and clothe the hungry, especially in the upcoming holiday season."
And the work goes on. A group of employees have set up a knitting club to knit fleecy scarves, and a Winter Coat Drive is underway to collect "gently worn" winter coats for men, women and children of all ages who will soon be in desperate need of warm clothing.
